After looking at all the positive fan feedback for DOOM on forums like NeoGaf and DoomWorld, and the reaction to the mini Doom Marine, I got this idea to make a poster with some of their quotes and the Doom Marine posing with the little guy on his shoulder. Because the fans were such a loud and positive voice for the game, I wanted to give something back to them for all of their positive comments. I thought it might be cool for them to see something they said on a marketing piece similar to how we use game and magazine review quotes. There really were way too many to choose from!

This concept kind of spawned from Tiago’s idea to do a photomode with selfies like one of the classic DOOM mods. I actually made five different versions of this poster with the same user quotes and different poses and weapons. Sometimes with the mini marine. There were two background variations and lighting setups, one on black and one in level you see here. I also toyed with the idea of putting “The Doom Marine has spoken” over the marine because each player was the Doom Marine, and since he doesn’t speak, their quotes are his voice. Ultimately I decided to leave that off since it was getting too busy.
