ONE STEPPED MODE AT A TIME · 1 MAY 2025
Been working on this shot a bit more consistently over the past week or so. Had a few updates to its shot page with new versions but don’t want to post with every single change. Since it’s a bit more beefy than recent shots, it does take longer but that also helps with working on it more often because it doesn’t feel like starting from scratch on a new animation. Even in small bursts like a half hour to two hours here and there helps push things along, so I’m trying to be better about that. Also, I recently made a script to help with blocking breakdowns. Sets the before and after keyframes in/out tangents to be linear so you can get an estimated “in between,” then inserts a key on your current frame, and finally, puts them all back to whatever spline mode you have set, usually stepped for blocking. You can then adjust the pose from there. Helps when you have big changes between poses and lets you work more quickly without having to think about switching to the graph editor, selecting all the keys, resetting tangents, etc. This isn’t such a big deal if you work in spline mode, but stepped mode can be quite a slowdown. I’m guessing many people have made this type of script before, but I just never stopped to do it. |
